The club annual meeting was held at the Center Square Grill. A new board was installed and four new members welcomed: Nikki Goewey, Karen Gatchell, Kate Hamer, and Kathy Gardner.
Members and friends went to see the movie A Man Called Otto. The book on which the movie was based, A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, had previously been a Book Club favorite.
The Hampden-Wilbraham Partners for Youth hosted a presentation Let's Talk About Underage Drinking. Club helped promote the event and provided assistance during the evening.
Marva hosted a meeting of the Book Club to discuss The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Good food and good talk.
We combined a social event with a project and called it a Seed Social. Seven of us gathered to package up 400 bags of Chive seeds to distribute to the students at Mile Tree School on Read Across America Day. It was a productive evening with lots of food, drink, talk, and laughter.
The Wilbraham Junior Women's Club and the General Federation of Women's Clubs teamed up with Secure the Call to collect used and unwanted cell phones and tablets. These devices find new life as emergency-only phones, which Secure the Call distributes to Domestic Violence Services across the country. In February we collected and shipped 29 phones and 4 tablets.
The Book Club met at Krazy Jake's to discuss the book When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Several of the ladies in attendance had experience in medical fields which added some interesting insights to the conversation.
Club met in the Community Room at the Police Station. A brief social time was followed by a lot of discussion and planning of the spring events.
As part of Read Across America, and in honor of Dr. Suess's birthday, we read the The Lorax to 14 classrooms at the Mile Tree School. Each student also received a packet of seeds to grow their very own Truffala Trees... actually they were Chive seeds, but Chives look a lot like miniature Truffala Trees. .
The Hampden-Wilbraham Partners for Youth hosted a presentation on Digital Wellness and Literacy among youth and teens by Dr. Michael Rich. Club helped promote the event and provided assistance throughout the evening.
The Book Club met at Krazy Jake's to discuss the book The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. It was an interesting conversation about family and colorism.
Club met in the Community Room at the Police Station. During and after the meeting everyone worked on preparing the foam cutouts needed for the craft table at the Bunny Breakfast.
For the first 20 days of March, leading up to the start of Spring, club members were challenged to fill one "bag" a day with items that could be donated, recycled, or disposed. 62 bags were filled.
Wilbraham/Hampden Organizations Festival was held at the Thornton Burgess School in Hampden. We hosted a table at this event to spread awareness about our club.
The club collected toiletry items for the Springfield Rescue Mission. Four full totes and three bags held the 519 items donated.
Club members and their families participated in a town wide clean up effort. Brenda and Jen also worked on the committee to plan this event. It was a great accomplishment that will hopefully become an annual event!
Club members attended the play "Little Women" performed at the Wilbraham United Church by the Wilbraham United Players.
The Book Club met via Zoom to chat live with Margaret O'Donnell about her book Gret's Rock. Margaret and her husband live in Florida now, but they raised their family in Wilbraham where she was a Junior Club Member.
The April club meeting was held in the Community Room at the Wilbraham Police Station.
